Yeah, just that part when they come together, you just have to be able to cut it out and weld it all back up, it takes some work. It's not that bad if you have the tools to do it, I do at work, I just don't want to mess with it until I have to.

So if it's just being replaced with another Y pipe, what's so bad about the one that's in there now?? Just curious..

It's restrictive the way it's built. The metal is kind of folded over and instead of a 2.5 inch pipe it's like an inch around.

Wow. That's crappy. Now I get it. So where did you get your Y pipe that fit the existing pipes??

Amazon Amazon

And like I said you have to build it into the existing y-pipe.

The thing about exhaust work is each little thing you change doesn't do much, but it all adds up to pretty significant performance gains.

I'll add that if you want headers to replace the manifolds, long tubes and tuning will provide a pretty good gain. The Summit headers I assume are shorties, which won't gain you much. The Y pipe will help, but won't gain as much as long tubes would. Here's what they're talking about in the poor design of the stock Y:

Yeah the only thing about long tubes is you can't hook them up to the rest of the exhaust right? You pretty much have to do a complete exhaust system around long tubes and that's what I didn't want to deal with. I've never seen them first hand and I don't know how to handle the cats, and since I have to get emissions tests every two years I definitely need to have them, I probably won't even get away with it if I take out my 4 and go to 2.

That is the caveat with most of the LT's is the rest (at least to the Y) has to be fabbed. Ones like the OBX in the link are the exception. It can have cats with the system or not depending what the purpose is. I know Austin97 knows, but for everyone else, driving without cats on a street plated truck is a federal offence if caught. Visual inspections you can get away with two, but sniffer inspections it's best to have full cats.
