Arrow Styleside to Flareside conversion worth it?

Hello everyone

I've beenn a long time reader of this forum but this is my first time posting. my name is jake and i have a 2002 f150 xlt shortcab that was purchased brand new and was well maintained by my old man

The truck only has 100k on it and i use it everyday. I've always wanted a Lightning - love the way flareside beds look on a shortcab and now that this is my main vehicle i'm wondering how much it would me cost to convert my styleside to a flareside.

I dont want a lightening clone - just the flareside look. this truck has a lot of sentimental value and i want to keep it in the family for a long time

I know that the beds are interchangeable but is replacing only the fenders a possibility?

Ideally i would purchase a set like these (link below) but are the bolt fittings also interchangeable?

http://www.discountbodyparts.com/cat...?dbpcid=gglpla

what other parts would i need?

thank you in advance and have a good weekend

You will need the whole bed assembly to make the switch possible. You will also need the rear bumper off a Flareside or SCrew to finish it correctly. You will also need the f/s fuel fill hose for correct angles.

If you get a late 2000 (after 2/12/2000) and up step bed, you will have the correct wiring for the taillights. If you go with an older bed, you'll need to get the correct taillights (high back up vs middle back up) so that the wiring works correctly. You can modify your wiring if need be. I'm just throwing out what you will most likely need.

Thank you akdoggie - i guess there are no shortcuts

I tried looking for the flareside box assembly but it is very difficult to find, might have to go to a junkyard. Do you happen to know if the tailgate is the same for both beds?

I did the swap and I really like it and it's very simple to do. If you think it looks better it's worth it if not..... Why bother

Thanks, thats encouraging

Can you give me more details on how did the swap? Did you buy an assembled bed from another truck or did just the individual parts?

The tailgate on a Flareside is the same as the SCrew, but does not fit Styleside Regular Cab or SuperCab models. The Explorer Sport Trac tailgate is suppose to also fit, but it has a body molding at the lower middle, which doesn't match the 150 contours, but it will work.

Nope...

You can only get them rotten like that up north! There is a green one just up the street from me for $1600
