Default Steering wheel squeak

Guess what? A new sound today.

Squeaking when I turn the wheel in either direction.

If I'm stopped and just shimmy the steering wheel; I get a squeak that doesn't sound great.
Not a grind, but more of a "I'm bone dry" squeak.

Any thoughts?

Ball joints or tie rod ends.

If its inside the cab its a column bearing. If its outside more than likely balljoints.

Default Steering wheel squeak

I have the same squeak on my truck and that's with three year old greasable ball joints so I know it's not that. I was told to grease my pitman arm with a needle grease gun attachment. Bought one on Amazon and haven't got around to using it yet. Al you do is poke a hole in the boot and fill. I'm sure this would work with the tie rod ends too. Will try when I get home from work and let you know

I have a squeak like that and for me there is a foam thing on the end of the steering shaft that goes through the firewall, I put some grease in there and no squeak. Try to shimmy the steering wheel while under the dash and see if that is your issue.

Definitely on the outside.

I'm getting an oil change and a buddy of mine that works there is slabbing a bit of grease on the ball joints to see if that's it.

Updates to follow!

The doc called...

Not great news.

Upper ball joint separating.

However---I had my sis jump in the cab an emulate the worst sounding movements. It's a cv axle. The boot sprung a leak and is squeaking like crazy.

Can I patch that hole (wherever it is) and inject some grease in there?

Update.

New cv axle. 40$ at the end of the day from autozone. 15$ coupon+ core rebate.

Had to use 12mm wrench instead of socket, so it took a little longer than desired.

Sounds beautiful now.
