Check the neutral safety switch, most likely cause since you have already checked all the common things. Put the shift lever in neutral position and while turning the key to start it move the lever back and fourth to see if the starter turns over. Just a thought!

my 2003 was doing the same thing I don't know for sure what I did that fixed the problem, but I did clean the battery terminals also the starter solenoid terminals and beat the ***** out of the starter, never had an issue since.

I think cause my truck was sitting for a while not being used it developed this problem. After a month of using it for work, the starting issue went away.

I know this doesn't give you an exact answer but just giving you what worked for me.

Have you removed and inspected the condition of the cables going to the starter? Are the Mega fuses on the firewall passenger side ok?

Default Repaired starting problem

Fuse #21 on inside fuse panel looked good but after removing it tested for oms would not read ( Note this fuse onld get's voltage when ignition switch is turned to start position) Then sends power to netural safty switch then to the relay and starter siloniod on fire wall ( Fuse was blown after solinoid went bad) Tks

Hi, I have a problem related to this. My starter wire corroded and broke about halfway up. I tried to run a new wire and broke the stud holding it onto the solonoid. I removed the solonoid and replaced with a new one. Now I cant remember where the wires go. I placed the starter wire on the top stud, the double wire on the bottom and two smaller wires on the smaller stud to the side. Now when I crank it it over it just clicks very rapidly, I am not sure if I wired wrong or I installed the solonoid wrong, any help would be appreciated. Also I thought I removed a wire mounted to the starter bolt and frame but I cant find any other wires underneath.....
