So, it's a 99 and you think it's missing. That's all we know because that's all you've given us.

Use a Scanner to look at mode 6, test 53 at the misfire counts for each cylinder.
The one with the highest counts is your problem.
Then suspect the coil, plug or wire as equipped, for that cylinder.
The coming and going of the issue is it's temperature sensitive and may have shorted turns in the coil winding.
These kinds of failures don't result in a code or a CEL very quickly because it's not a hard fault that locks in.
Under these conditions, the system cancels the request to set code because the fault clears before the required number of >on going< failures has occurred each time.
The test 53 record keeping has no ability to trigger codes but is there for trouble shooting and even predicting future failure if observed enough now and then when they begin to count up on any cylinder.
Good luck.

Yes??....Missing/running rough, either or...That's all I know too....Just seems like it's not firing consistent but???....Believe me, if I had 'other' symptoms I'd add them...Like I said, 'seemed' to be missing etc and previously revved the motor and was fine....I'm no mech so a lot just comes and goes...

It's helpful to know what motor you have, etc.

Right. Tuneup info, codes, anything would help. Bluegrass gave him some good info.

Coils usually show up first under acceleration at about 40 miles an hour.

1. Read codes.
2. If no code read mode 06 data on misfire counts.
3. Look at offending cylinders, Ensure
coils/wires/plugs are tight. Is there any coolant in any of the spark plug wells?

4. Swap one at a time coil / plug / injector from your worst offending cylinder to a good cylinder and see if the problem moves with it. If it does you have answer when it moves. If it doesn't you have to look deeper..... Primary ignition circuit/grounds, fuel pressure, compression, Head gasket leaks, etc

Sounds like it needs a good tune up is all, with the CORRECT replacement parts. Go through it.
