I'm looking into switching my gears over to 4.10, I would go to 4.56 but I tow two four wheelers a boat and a pop up trailer sometimes, so I was wondering about the spline count? What is it and how do I know which one to get?

Which rear axle do you have. You can check the tag on one of your differential cover bolts

31 spline rear

28 spline front

It's the machined splines on the axle shafts that engage/slip into the spider gears

if your going from 4.10 to 4.56 you don't need to worry about spline count because you won't be needing to change your carrier all you need to do is get the modified center pin and put that into the carrier before you put the ring gear on the carrier and make sure your spider gears are already on it when you put the center pin in

oh nm my last statement you won't even need the new center pin all you need to worry about is the ring gear and the pinion gear and get a rebuild kit

I'm going from 3.55 to 4.10s! I think I tow to much to get 4.56.

yeah thats why i said nevermind the other post you don't need to upgrade the axles or anything and so you'll be able to use the stock spider gears and the carrier your just replaceing your ring and pinion gears and then depending on your mileage either the master rebuild kit with the bearings or get a basic rebuild kit without the bearings your choice on that
