spark plug problem

Default spark plug problem

I have 2000 ford f150 5.4l engine (gas). first time changing plugs. 165,000 miles. have it for 11 years. (had 89,000 when I bought it).have problem with #3 plug. (passenger side second to last one from firewall). can't seem to grip it with spark plug socket. I think the last owner may have left rubber boot from socket on during last change. any suggestions?

Inspection mirror and flash light .. look in there to see what's up.

Or try to stick your phone's camera over the plug hole and snap a photo. There's a big long thread from just a little while ago about a thread that a member thought was rounded off... read that for some ideas. There are some good ones in there.

so weird. My 99 5.4 had the EXACT same issue. I used an inspection camera and found that there was some piece of plastic in there. Just some broken small piece about a half inch square in size. I put the long nozzle on the air compressor and blew it out. I was then able to get the plug out.

If it's just dirt and crap in there, it happens, then you can use a piece of 3/4 plumbers copper to chew it up. You have to notch teeth into one end. Spin it around the plug to break it up, then clear the debris w/compressed air...IF that's the case.

Compressed air or a small nozzle on a shop vac. I agree to figure out what is in there first to determine the best way to remove it.

But it looks like you're going to luck out in your case, once you get that black rubber thing out of there.

In my case, the plug WAS rounded off completely FUBAR'd by the PO....it broke, and I had to extract it. Hopefully not your case but let us know!!
