Default Single or duals??

Yeah sorry its another exhaust thread..

Im lookin to put a DIY cat back system on my truck.. 5.4 all stock cats..

Im lookin for the best sound... I want a nice deep loud idle and take off..

I was dead set on SIDO Flowmaster super 44 dual exit in front of the rear tire so I went to a shop today to get a price.. I was qouted 225 for a whole flowmaster set up when I asked which series that included he said 40 seiries I asked how much to run the super 44 instead and he told me there was no difference it was the same muffler.. So I left of course.. I went home got online and seen I can get everything from summit racing to do it myself for 180...

But after reading some threads on here I see some people recommending other set ups like a dynomax Bullet..

So whats my best options for sound?? SIDO 44, single bullet, Magnaflow, or somthing completly different??

Sound clips are welcome although if its on youtube ive probably already seen it lol but post anyway..

I did a SIDO 40 series and just bought two factory side exit in front of the wheel tail pipes. They had to be extended back from the muffler so I made one extension longer than the other and had to shorten the outside pipe to make them line up. I guess I didn't really save any money though if you can get a kit for $250...

I've got a 4.6 so maybe yours will be louder but I don't think the 40 series is what you want, it doesn't put out much sound at idle, but sounds pretty deep accelerating. It's not incredibly loud but it sounds good. I've got shorty headers but i don't really know how much that effects the sound because I never heard the truck run before I put my pi swap motor with the headers in. The truck didn't run when I bought it. Honestly I liked it better when the muffler was in the bed and I just had a single tail pipe shoved on so it didn't heat up under the truck. Basically if you want volume, the 40s and I don't think the 44s are what you want. I think the 10 series is supposed to be loud but I didn't fine one that was SIDO and I wanted the look of the dual tail pipes in front of the rear tire.

Yeah I mean I dont want crazy loud but I want a nice deep idle as well rather than just loud take off.. Im the same as you I really like the dual pipes in front of tire so Id like to do it like that, but if a single bullet would sound better I might have to settle for a single..

40 should be fine. I think that's what my buddy is running. SIDO. Sounds good and has a low rumble.

I agree with everyone above. I had a flowmaster 40 series SIDO chopped under the cab. It was nice but not enough rumble. I'm going with a super 44 when I finally decide to put a muffler back on.

My hanger had broke and the muffler was smacking the bed.

The 40 series is probably what you want then, it sounded like you wanted something loud. Its deep at idle and has a nice sound taking off. When I see a truck with no exhaust showing I always assume it rusted out and fell off and the guy is too lazy to fix it. I didn't put tips on it or anything, that's lame but I think it looks good showing the duals in front of the tire. Plus I don't like heating up the floor.

I think dual bullets would be a good option. Deeper more refined tone throughout the throttle. Bullets will be louder than the Flows. Throw an X pipe in place of the stock Y, run it back to two bullets, and exit it where you choose.
