Default SAS Information needed.

I'm looking to SAS my 97. I already have a set of axles froma superduty. To be exact they are from a 06 F350 SRW. My biggest questions is should I swap the Radium arm D60 for a leaf sprung D60 or should I just use the one I have and go with a long arm style 4 link with coils/coilovers. Being its a truck I'm not worried about the ride but more importantly it needs to perform off road.. SSo give some input guys..

mine in leaf spring style. depends on budget and experience. In my opinion its much easier to mount leafs then coils. minimum lift with leafs is 6 inchs. I have 6.5 drop bracket and 2 inch lift springs for the moment. Running D60 hp king pin with 14 bolt rear w 456 gears.

That helps alot. Minimum is 6" regardless of axles then. I have done both setups before for customers, but never really chose for my own setup. I know leafs are easier. But I dont want mine to be like every other SAS'd F150. I may just pick up a set of Fabtech 8" Coils and radius arms and build my own brackets. What all is need for the rear to run the 3" wide SD rear springs over the stock 2.5"?

well i guess that would all depend on the perch width of the sd axle. More than likely the perches are slightly wider so you might have to swap out the hanger and use a modified shackle. Never went for 2.5 to 3.0 might be very simple might not. I have a 14 bolt chevy rear which is 2.5 so just moved the perches. As for coil I wasnt that good at doing this stuff when i did mine also with limited tools. But if you know what your doing it would be sweet to run coils and a 4 link. would also get you more axle flex in the end. Ballistic Fabrication has some good parts that might help you out or Ruff Stuff Specialties. Ballistic has terrible service just to let you know thou.

I know the perch width is wider on the SD axle which I like means it have more stability. But I live in Florida so axle flex isnt a big deal, but when I got up to TN for the fall hunting season, having decent flex will aloow me to go more places I need to get to with having to break out the quad... The truck is more comfortable than spend 8-10hrsfighting a quad thru the hills. Thanks for that info.

well if the frame widths from both trucks are the same you could swap brackets out. Or make you own brackets to mount them. Then leafs would be easiest. Mine is for street use with limited lift laws so i cant go to high. I do in the end like the reliability for an sas run 35s for over a year now no wear yet.

I'm not worried about wearing out anything. The Sterling 10.5 is pretty strong. The D60 Has already been upgraded with chromoly shafts, Spyntec hubs, Detriot Tru-trac in both axles mated with 4.88's. I'd love a Kingpin D60 but not forking over that kind of money..

Well you have more money then me lol. Couldnt afford the detroits but would love to have them. Just have a spool in back and an open front with chromoly outs and 35 spline lock outs up front. I got a deal on my axles and just so happened to be a king pin.

I actually bought them from a salvage title truck as they sit for $1000. Down here a bone stock in good condition Kingpin D60 will bring anywhere from $1k-$1.5k

650 for both up here in MN unless its a 78-79 60 most wont pay it here. Some people are just crazy on their pricing thinking they can get that much for a stock axle.
