Default Rust what do i do

So I was pricing lift kits for my truck until I looked underneath, under my cab there is these rail looking things that go all the way across on both sides and they're rusted out! How do I fix these? Is there supposed to be something there? Or does it just round off because they are rusted completely out. How would I go about fixing this problem along with other things rusted out underneath.. Is this something a shop would fix and how much am I looking at to get it fixed? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

Got any pics? There's a few things I am imagining you are talking about.

I wouldn't waste my money on a lift kit for a truck in the condition.

That's your floor board. Not much you can do if you're here asking about it.

If you can weld or know a welder, check JC Whitney or carparts.com for floor pans. That won't help all of it, but for a couple hundred bucks you'd at least have some of it repaired. I should really get my truck under coated before it gets any worse.

I certainly wouldn't spend any money on mods with that much rust. Either spend money on rust repair or drive it as is until it falls apart.

I too live in the rust belt. This was how mine looked. If you are doing a suspension lift this won't affect much of it. But if you are thinking a body lift then yea, a lot of work needed.

A lot of people turn their heads and immediately disregard rusted trucks like ours. Especially if they don't live where we do.

Check the mounts for the bed too. Mine were gone. I started by taking the rest of the rocker out of there up to the solid metal. Then pulled the carpet back to get a better idea of what I was looking at. Now I have the advantage of a welder now, but on my first 10 gen I Did not. I used sheet metal from a metal recycle facility and made my own floor boards and rocker panels.
On this truck, I bought the replacement rockers and redid them that way. You will want to use a rust inhibitor or rust primer on the rest of the areas and seal it in with good undercoating. If you want to wait, I would get some flat black spray paint and coat it for now to try to keep it at bay.

Yes its a lot of work, but not too expensive and well worth it.
