Default Routine Maint/Performance Upgrade

Hey all new to forums here. I have a 01 4.6L F150 A/T with 4x4 and get about 14-15 mpg. The truck has 175000 miles on it but the engine only has about 90000 or so. I am going to be doing some long road trips in about a month and want to do some preventable maintenance possibly some upgrades.

Currently I have flowmaster 40 split in the rear, superchip tuner(which for some reason isnt turning on when plugging in), 6" fabtech, 35 MTZs.

So far I have changed pcv valve, seafoam, cleaned TB, cleaned MAF sensor, and installed a new fuel filter.

Since I was nearing 100k miles on the motor, I was thinking about doing spark plugs, coil packs, new battery (cold up north), and new O2 sensor. My mechanic said he would charge 320 labor if I bought all the supplies before, any recommendations on what? MSD coil packs or stock?

Others were a CAI and possibly headers. I really would prefer a dry filter CAI, is volant and S&B the only compaies who make dry? Does the enclosed or open system matter much? If I get .5-1mpg additional i would consider that a success and would pay for itself in a year. Has anyone had success with headers? I have read there is not much gain from shorties but I also havent found many long tubes for my truck.

Thanks

plugs shouldn't snap off on our trucks thats 04-08 5.4s. It does take a while though. I'd use motorcraft.

Motorcraft plugs for sure. Don't change any coils unless you have a problem with them, they're not part of the tune up, they're a replace when they go bad kind of thing. I like Motorcraft batteries, but whatever, it doesn't seen to matter too much, they're all made by the same 4 companies anyway. I did a Gotts mod instead of getting a CAI, if you don't know what that is search it on here. I use a AFE Pro Dry S filter, I don't know how it compares to the S&B or Volant, but all 3 are pretty high quality names so they're probably all fine. I have Pacesetter shorty headers, and I would not recommend them. I wish I would have spent the extra $150 and bought the BBKs, or a little more than that and got the OBX long tubes.

Oh and your cigarette lighter fuse is blown that's why your superchips won't power up. Same fuse as the DLC.

I wouldn't replace the coils either. I would just replace the boots on the coils! I would just sandblast the electrode on the coil. Typically green and cruddy! Its where the spring clips on the coil! Sounds like you have kept up on everything else. Motorcraft plugs in my opinion!

Thanks Austin97. Wasnt aware the coil packs are just replace when they go bad, savin me some money. I do recall about a year ago one went bad and they just replaced that single one. So I will just stick with Motorcraft plugs and boots.

So pacesetter arent that good I guess, I have heard good things about BBK. I cant seem to remember OBX making long tubes for 97-03 4.6L, I must have missed it.

What fuse is for the cigarette lighter/DLC?

Thanks all, savin me some money.
