Default Remote Oil Filter

2001 F 150 Supercab 4x4 with 5.4. I changed my oil for the first time after buying this truck and what a pain in the ***!!!! There is no room to get an oil filter wrench in there. I cant stand having someone else change my oil. I was wondering if anyone on here has put a remote oil filter on this type of truck. It took me literally an hour to fiddle with the filter and complete the oil change. If there is a remote kit please let me know some info about it

Thanks

Yes, there is a remote oil filter setup. I don't know where to buy one new, but I've been to the junkyard a few times and it seems as if almost every other 97-2003 F-150 I've seen has the remote oil filter location (behind front bumper, drivers side). I've been thinking about taking one off to put on my truck since I had a terrible time getting mine off as well. I swear, my truck is one of the only ones without it!

I have no problem with mine. It takes me 10 minutes to change my oil. There is a cross member under the front of the engine. If you lay under the front of the truck and reach over that cross member you can easily access it with a filter wrench.

Good day,

I thought about getting a remote filter kit too, but I discovered (by accident) that an old serpentine belt does wonders getting the filter off... All you have to do is make sure the fiter is clean of excess oil, and wrap the belt around the fiter two or three times... Then just pull on the end that goes over the top of the filter...

Summitt has remote filter kits... Single and dual filter kits that use the bigger Motorcraft FL1A (Fram PH8A) filters...

Good luck in your search!

Cheers!!

I know they've got them for the 4.6. My '97 has one. I recently had to change the gasket for the remote filter adapter. I thought it was rather bizarre because my lower radiator hose and two oil lines(which go to the remote filter) go through the adapter to the block.

Like kookookachew says, maybe you can snag one from a junkyard. You might also want to check with the ford parts department. That's where I ended up going for the funky gasket.

I own an oil/lube/filter shop. These are your friends for the F-150 oil filter issue...

I don't have a problem with mine either???? 5.4 with 4X4. So I am with Tleach on this one. I love the belt trick though

I do have a remote filter on my gold 2001 7700 but it is for the tranny. Do a search on e-bay, I got 3 of them for $60 shipped to Canada. They are a Fram racing oil filter adapter kit HPK-2 remote filter. Uses a standard ph8a filter.

This has got to be one of the biggest advantages of having a 6" crossmember lift on my truck. I know this doesn't help but sure makes changing the filter a snap!
