Default quick question - help!

my 97 f150 is misfiring...on the 6th cylinder k pulled the spark plug and started the truck no spark...changed the spark plug still no spark....changed plug wire still no spark....so im guessing coil pack is bad on that side??? the other plugs/wires are fine just the 6th thanks!

If you have a digital multimeter you should be able to test the coil for continuity.

Sounds like you already answered your own problem

Before spending the money, switch the coils.. Move the left to the right and see if the problem moves to the other side. If not, then check the #6 cylinder for compression. You might have a valve or gasket giving you this symption. Without another coil for comparison, this is the cheapest and easiest way to check the twin coils. Good luck.

thanks guys...i tested the coil pack it was bad...replaced and seemed good...now its hicuping again..double checked spark plugs and spark plug wire found one that seemed to have a crack in it....replaced it...ran good took it for a ride doing 55 ran strong...then hicuped again...truck runs fine one min then hicup for a few mins then good again...gonna just replace all spark plugs, wires, and test other coil pack....quick question any one know if replacing one new coil pack will cause any issues to the older coil pack? if they feed off each other at all? gonna test it again in the morning and just replace it all cant hurt none...also wondering if fuel could be the issue how it runs fine one sec then hicups the next...maybe fuel filter or fuel injector....gonna tear into it in the morning any advice would be great thanks!

Make sure you use some electrical grease on those plug connections.

The coil packs do not feed off each other. They just go to 4 different cylinders each. Any plug wire with cracks or damage need replaced. I'd go ahead and change the wires and plugs as a set. You may have a dirty fuel filter also. Do you have any codes setting? Check the PCV valve and the also check your throttle body. You may have a ton of varnish built up on the front and inside. This can cause a misfire at a steady speed. Searching for air. Good luck.

thanks guys, went ahead and replaced plugs and wires...and tested coil pack getting spark so think we are good there...still a issue tho...its knocking at idle a bit...then when u drive it...its will go but seems to hicup when giving it gas...im starting to think the egr valve...ya the codes were pulled, was a misfire on 6th cylinder (think i fixed that)....oxygen sensor before cat...fuel injector and egr issue... figured i start front and work back...so did spark, now fuel...and from reading up on egr i think it maybe the issue...anyone have issues with egr valve?? wondered if it sounded like the same problem im having...car not wanting to go when giving it gas etc thanks!
