Default Quick Question b4 I do it today

I am going to paint my grill insert black today on my truck, from what I read, you can not take the insert off, so I have to take the entire gill off.....
Anyway, my question is do I have to do prep work on it before I paint it? I know I have to clean it really well but do I need to sand or anything like that?

Once you take the grill and surround off you can pop the grill insert out from the back. Just clean it and use a scotch brite and scuff it a little, paint don't adhere well to shiny stuff.

oh yeah I had grey honeycomb, I painted it black. I taped off the surround, put a big piece of plastic behind the grille, and sprayed it....worked for me. but if you're using a brush or whatever, I'd remove it, I'd say that's easier for that way....

Make sure you spray from EVERY angle, the way the grille is shaped if you miss a spot it'll show up real bad. I learned the hard way first time i did mine

I used Rustoleum plastic paint. It comes in a rattlecan. It has a picture of one of those plastic stackable lawn chairs on it. Cleaned it with brake parts cleaner in a rattle can, rinsed it off with water and let it dry in the sun. It came out good. I'd recommednd removing the grille insert to do it.
