Default Question about a leveling kit for 1998

I have a question , would it be okay to put a leveling kit on my truck? it has 175,xxx miles , I have heard to never put a lift on a truck 150,xxx miles up. my truck has the stock 4x4 torsion keys cranked up but It is getting old because the front is higher than the back. would it be a good idea to put it on a high mileage truck?

If you already have the bars cranked, what type of leveling kit are you referring to?

I've heard to not put after market keys on the trucks because it allows you to crank them too far.

As for the lift thing, I put my 5" lift on at around 172k miles, currently at 175,452 miles and my only problem is that when the drive shaft came out of the transmission the little bit (it's normal because the axle doesn't come up making it come out of the trans a little), I had some trans fluid leaking out of it, one seal later problem fixed. I did it with a couple other people, the only problem we encountered was that the torsion keys where stuck to the bar. 3 hours with penetrating oil, pry bars, and air hammers we couldn't separate them so we just took out the other cross member to drop the one the torsion keys are on.

You'll wear your front end out faster however it's far cheaper.

Up to you. A level will take 35's and look awesome.. A good lift will run you $2000 plus installation while a level will run you about $200 plus installation which isn't overly hard.

It's your call. How long do you think you'll own the truck? Are you the kind of guy to get rid of things?

Remember, if you lift it it isn't worth any more then it was before and you threw your money away when you go to sell. Also, some people (including myself) are weary while buying a lifted truck because of the people who seem to think a cheap *** 6 inch lift turns their truck into an offroad machine.

thanks guys for the replys , I am just trying to find a little 1-2.5 inch body lift / leveling kit not any thing to spectacular as the truck is pretty big as it sits on 33s , and RED-truck, that's exactly why I am worried about putting any thing on it don't want to ruin anything major as I have heard will happen time to time , and I am not one to get rid of things quick , but in the next 5 years I will probably want a car so I'm not paying so much for gas.

You're welcome.

I liked the way my truck sat when I had 33's, I just needed a negative offset on my wheels and I would have been good. Originally when I bought my 35's I later decided to get a lift, I wanted a 3" body lift for the stance and someone said they could get a 4" but needed 200 bucks up front for labor (any red flags here?). That guy scammed me so some how or another I ended up spending 3x as much as I wanted to and getting a 5"? Not sure how that happened lol but I'm happy. The only thing I am slightly worried about was that it came with thin U-bolts and it has stacked blocks in the rear. Everything else seems solid.

If I where to do it again, I would just do a set of 33's with enough negative offset to get the tire to the edge of the fender.

Haha I'm sorry dude that sucks! my truck has a bout a 2 inch off set right now , only thing I don't like is the way it looks with it cranked in the front , i can't crank it down due to the 33s , the previous owner put every thing on it (wheels and tires and the torsion crank) so I just want a little lift where it isn't leaning to the back as much .

It's all good, Paypal gave me my money back, that's the perks of not using cash I guess lol.

Are your wheels after market? I ran 33's without cranking the T-bars but that was also on the stock wheels.

You can still clear 33's on after market wheels depending on the offset. Also remeber with body lifts anything under a 3" IIRC does not include bumper brackets.
