I know not to compare a 3v to a 2v but im just telling how it improved my dads 04. I don't want it for the hp or torque gains, i want it more for the shifting firmness and throttle response. The best way to add power or torque is to add a supercharger or air intake, something on that line. What i'm wondering is if it will still help the shift firmness and throttle response in the older era. Because i know that the 04's have a lot more electronics in them.

From the gas tuning world? Bully dog is considered mid or bottom barrel, their strategies are sub par even compared to other canned devices.

The average person an email custom tune will do them just fine. VMP along with several others will do data logging and the SCT system is very good at that. I've actually seen email tunes run better/safer than some dyno tunes depending on who the tuner is.
It's not the software that makes the tuner, it's the tuner that makes the software. My 2 cents.
That was a tune I had for my car lol, no towing. I was just making an example of the ways you actually increase your mileage...ways most companies wouldn't touch without putting an a/f meter on your car

And you are quite correct, the tuner makes the end result. I would trust a John Lund tune over pretty much anything and that would be a remote data log file tune. That dude it top notch. But generally a dyno tune is more accurate as they almost always have a wideband hooked up, which isn't always the case with a data log file. Not all support input for air fuel

Its not really the programmer that has anything to do with it lol.. thats the point. The programmer just loads the tune. Look around on the net for REPUTABLE tuning companies and search your local shops to see what they use. To get a good tune, you need good tuners. A canned tune just wont do much, for a 2v at least.

My recommendation is an SCT. Try to find one used if you can, just make sure its unlocked.

This should explain a little more on the differences and which ones are better.
