Default Potential Newb

Hello Fellas! I am in the market for a new (used) truck, and my neighbor has decided to sell his 99 f150 and I would like your input. Here is what I am looking for in a truck:

4x4
ext cab
A bed long enough to fit 1 or 2 motorcycles (ninja 250) that are approx 80 inches long.

Can anyone tell me how long the bed is with the tailgate down? I am assuming it'll have to be left down, as the f150 isn't a long bed. I was looking at a Dodge Dakota v8, but I believe the f150 would better suit me. Also I looked up all the recalls for them for that year and there were quiet a bit.

Can you give me any suggestions on what to look for as well when inspecting it? He says he just replaced the motor with one that had 30k miles on it.

The truck will not be my daily driver, it will be to haul my bikes (in the bed) and a popup camper, or to haul my Yamaha rhino, or to haul 3 bikes in a trailer, AND my snow/winter truck.

Thanks fellers!

Edit: heres ya a pic to druel over:

How much does he want for it? What's the size of the engine? The truck looks to be in good shape, though there are some cosmetic changes that I would definitely make.

He wants 5,200 but Im gonna offer 5 for it if I like it, I believe its got the v8 triton in it. In the pic does the bed look a little longer than a 6ft'er? Also what changes would you make? I dont like the rims, BUT its gonna be mainly for hauling stuff so I dont wanna drop serious $$ into it.

If it had a new transmission I would take it for 5K, but I think $4,000 would be my top. From what I can see on the picture, I would take the 4x4 sticker off, take off the chrome handle, new rims and tires, and spray the window surround black.

Does he have any maintenance records, or proof that the engine only had 30k on it? This is the biggest risk you run when you buy a vehicle that 10+ years old.

Have you tried fitting your bikes on the back to see if they would fit?

I'm prob wrong but to me it looks like a longbed from pic. Im not sure though just a thought. I would get rid of the 4x4 offroad sticker. And paint rear window trim. Meaty tires. I like the rims.

That's a 6.5 bed and all those trim fixes and decal removal would make a huge discount and maybe try to find those stock rims they put on the lariat and expositions those always looked cool to me

You all are right it is a 6.5ft bed so I'd be able to put my bikes in the back with the tailgate down. Its a pretty done deal I'd say, body looks great, I couldn't find any rust on it, and he does have all the service recepits of when the motor was replaced and it came with a 1 year warranty, so its got about 6 months remaining. THe tranny shifted smoothly as well. Those are aftermarket rims but I'm not really digging them, and the tires are gonna need to be replaced. Prob last me this winter but it'll have to be soon.
