I think the sound that people thought was a lifter is actually something in the a/c system, as it only happens when a/c is on. I'll have to do some research on that. Thanks for all the help everyone. Hopefully I can find some time where I don't need the truck for a day or two to get this done.

Theres a reputation for exhaust stud breakage requiring drilling and extraction.

It needs to be as soaked in penetrant for a few days before attempt, and bad things still can happen
