Default PO403 Code is this serious??

hello everyone

i was driving around today and the "service engine soon" light came on and i checked it with my code reader and it's says it is for

Catalyst system efficency below threshhold (Bank 2)

is this the catalatic converters??

help appreciated

more than likily..although it might just b an o2 sensor. if it is the cats..cut them out and straight pipe it, you might still get the check eng light but it wont matter..or you might not, dont know about the newer models... but i would check the o2 sensor at the front of the cats, just pull it out and if its nasty, replace it, thatll be cheaper than the cats.

if i could cut out the cats i would but my dad want's the truck to stay the quite it is and it is not factory cats they are after market with 1 on each side

I'd try erasing the code first. If your truck doesn't pick up on any irregularities after three sucessive starts then the problem is erroneous and can be ignored. Otherwise you'll have to take it to the next step. Either way, though, if it has to do with your cat I don't think that the problem would be that severe.

i don't know if they are factory. the truck was strait piped right from the headers out when my dad bought it i think they are but i am not shur

i would like the light to stay out if i could


so the problem is one of my O2 sensor?

givin the info you gave me i would say so... try to erase the code first. thats the simplest thing first..usually the best.. if not the o2 sensor is a good place to start. after that u work your way down to the cats. anything else? allways willing to help!

o2 senser most likely, clear the code,if it comes back replace one at a time.
