Default Please identify this

I've got a 97 XL 4.6 4x4 and a very serious oil leak. After spraying and cleaning as much as I could so as to identify where the leak was coming from I think I spotted it. What is the cast part attached to the left front of the block where the high pressure oil lines attach and the lower coolant hose attaches on top. That's what looks to be leaking badly and I can't find what that part is called let alone help in repairing it.

Probably where the remote oil filter mounts to block. Pics would help.

Yes but the oil filter is on the other end. I need to replace the plate that is attached to the block itself. Both high pressure oil lines and the lower coolant hose use this piece. I'd take pics but it's dark.

Sounds like the oil filter adapter gasket. It's about $12.00 and you'll lose anti freeze when you remove the oil filter and adapter plate because that's part of the oil coolant system.

Sorry for late response, but didn't check the forum yesterday. I haven't done the job yet so can't speak from experience. Tony has some very informative videos at 1aauto.com and on youtube to reference for many of our vehicle maintenance projects. I didn't find one of his for this issue but did find one for a 2007 that might give you some idea of what's involved.

If you have a remote mount filter you have to remove the lines and block first before you can remove the adapter it self.

Thanks,, I'm gonna dig into it this weekend when it warms up a bit. Oh what I'd give for a heated garage or the money to have someone else do it.

Okay job accomplished. It was a bitch getting to the bolts. I placed a good sized Styrofoam cooler under the area to catch 98% of the coolant/oil but still had to use kitty litter. No removal of the oil lines was needed but I did loosen the power steering res. so as to get around those lines. Now crossing my fingers that it solves the oil leak.

Did that take care of your leak?
