Default Plastic Trim

My plastic trim(Around top of bed, tailgate handle, etc) is really starting to show its age.. Would like to do something about it when I get the chance. I know there are quite a few methods to make old trim look better (Painting, Bed liner, etc) or just buying new plastic trim pieces.. I've tried Wipe New and other plastic restoration products and that garbage just made it look worse.. My question is, what is the best method you guys have used on your trim?

Thanks guys.

tried turtle wax back to black? Wait for a sunny day when the plastic is warm and literally coat it, it says to wipe dry excess but trust me the trick is to leave it on for a day or 2 to really let it soak into the plastic. as long as it doesn't rain your good, if it rains it'll just look gross on the paint but comes right off, do this 3-4 times and your trim will look noticeably better. I promise!

I would suggest painting it. If you prep it right, using 220, then 1,000, priming, then painting, I think it would look better than new.

Im painting my dash and I'll be painting the bed rails and tailgate bump stop, so I'll keep you updated!

I've thought about painting, but I'm not sure how that would look. Let me know how that turns out dopewaffle!

the reason I do not suggest paint is because the problem with painting is they will be fragile and prone to pealing and chipping, i dont know about you but i use the plastic bed caps all the time to slide lumber and pretty much anything into the bed and the fact of the matter is painting is not going to hold up very well, bedliner would be about the only option I can think of that would still make them practical, maybe if you had them professionally done and baked they would hold up ok? Not sure, but if your going for show truck i guess it'll work. Lol

If they are the original trim pieces that came on the truck then that would mean they are more than 10 years old.. I would imagine that the plastic clips holding the trim in are very fragile.. Honestly, I would get newspaper and painters tape and just mask them off instead of removing them.

Did you wash the trim and use a degreaser such as purple power before you applied the Wipe New to your trim? I did this on my bed rails, and rear window trim, and grill 2 years and they still look great. The wipe new will create weird discolorations if it's not prepped properly(it says this in the directions)
