Pcm help!!
Swapped a 5.4l engine out my 2002 f150 with a 5.4l engine from 2000 Expedition. Cranks but won't start. Advance Auto Parts said I may need to swap out the PCM. Problem is I don't have the donor Expedition. I read on one of these forums that 2000-2004 5.4L should basically be plug and play with the exception of the Navigators. Any truth to that? If it is true is there a way to test the PCM. I'm not getting any codes but truck will crank but not start. If PCM needs to be swapped will I even get codes of something is wrong? Need help ASAP. I'm running out of $$ taking taxis to and from auto parts store and buying different parts I think are wrong. I can hear the fuel pump come on when i turn the key on. Inertia switch not activated. Theft light flashes a couple of times when key is turned on but goes out after a few seconds. CHT sensor is missing from new engine and im not sure if that would prevent the truck from starting. Also the radio noise capacitor is also missing from the engine. THANKS in advance.
you should not need the pcm from the expedition, if you have all the original sensors and ignition hooked up, it should run.
the f150 doesn't care if the engine came from an expedition.
if you didn't swap over sensors or are missing any, there would be a place to start.
have you checked for 3 main things you need? air fuel spark

As I recall, yes the CHT can prevent it from starting. Do you just not have one or is it missing? Scan it for codes yet?
EDIT: I believe that you can still make it start by pumping the pedal like an old carb'd car.

I believe the CHT is missing. The man who did the engine swap for me failed to put a lot of stuff on. The wire is there. I took the intake out to bolt down the knock sensor and I didn't even notice if the CHT WAS there or not. I have scanned it for codes. At first it showed "No Link" but I found a few blown fuses, one of which went to the PCM, and scanned again andb it came up "0 codes found".
Ex-husbands friend. As far as I know he swapped all the sensors from my original engine to the new one except for the ones that are missing i.e. the CHT sensor and the RFI capacitor which I cannot seem to find at any auto parts store. I picked up a multimeter and ignition tesyer today and plan on checking everything I can with those tomorrow. I didn't want to get the fuel pressure gauge or start buying new injectors and spark plugs or anything unless I was sure that it wasn't the PCM.

First, I would check for spark. The cam position sensor and the crank position sensor must be working to tell the PCM the position of the engine and when and where to send spark. If the PCM does not receive a signal from these sensors, no spark is sent to the plugs. If no spark, I would check these first to make sure they are hooked up. the crank sensor will sometimes get dirty and not work correctly. Cleaning it will sometimes fix the problem. If you replace it, it cost about $25.
Not sure if the CHT sensor not being connected will result in no spark but I would hook it up just to make sure and eliminate a source of your no start problem. Otherwise, seems to me that you should not have to change your PCM.

That makes me feel a little better. I would rather have to buy new sensors and remove the intake to hook up the CHT than replacing the PCM. Since I've already removed the intake once before I'm more confident in messing with that than the PCM. I've got a mobile mechanic coming tomorrow to see if he can pinpoint the problem. I'm crossing my fingers.
