Default P0353 code

So this morning when i started my truck it felt like it was missing. I had no SES light but it idle kinda of jumpy. When I accelerate the truck it shaked pretty bad and it had lost power. If I coast i won't feel a thing but as soon as I hit the gas it will shake. After 20 mins driving back home the SES light came on. I can't remember the code but it was #3 misfire.

My first impression was the coil. I replaced the plugs with motorcraft about 3k ago. I swapped coil #3 with #1. I cleared the SES and took it for a ride. The misfire was still there, i can feel it. There was no SES light this time. I plugged my scanner when i got home and I had P0353 only. That it is still related with #3 so that tells me is not the coil.

I did some research online and found some people mentioning issues with the harness. I looked around to see if the harness was rubbing but nothing. I moved the 2 wires of #3 plug around trying to feel if they were broke. I put everything back and I started the truck. I then tried unplugging #1. I noticed the change on the idle. When I unplugged #3 I didn't felt a change on idle or it was very slight. I plugged everything back, cleared the codes one more time and decided to take it for a ride again.

The truck rode fine with no misfires. The power under acceleration was back to normal. So it seems the issue is either the plug itself or the harness.

Any suggestions? I'm going to order a new plug and replace it since it is very easy to do. Thanks.

The gap is set correctly before I installed them. I think if it was a plug issue it would not have resolved itself. Won't you think? I mean is working fine right now.

sorry brother didn't read the whole post ok so you unplugged the coil while the truck was running rough and noticed no change and then cleared the light and the truck is running fine now? With that information I would say that that coil is on it's way out with an intermittent failure. So keep an eye on the CEL and the the condition of the trucks run cycle if you do in fact get another misfire code for I'm assuming cylinder 1 since I didn't read that you switched the coils back then I would replace the coil and call it a day the coils on these trucks crap out all the time although you do read sometimes that people still have the originals in the truck I call BS I've replaced 8 coils twice in 230k miles so that would be my input

No worries. I appreciate your input. The suspected coil misfire is on cylinder#1 now and the code didn't follow it. That's when I got PO353 which is still cylinder#3. That code is specific for coil but after messing around with the coil electrical plug I suspect there is something wrong with the electrical plug.

I mean it is possible that the coil I got now on #3 is on it's way out but I is kinda of hard to justify that been the original issue since the original coil placed on #3 is now on #1 and there is no code for #1. I never switched the coils back.

The idle is not perfect but I also have the passenger exhaust manifold leak that I have to get fixed soon.

From what I read these coils go out after certain time. I can see the rubber boots are old. I have 162k on this truck and I got it a few months ago. I'm kinda hoping it last me a few years so I want to take care of some of the maintenance needed. I'm looking to get a set visteons coils or motorcrafts. From what i read the visteons are the second best choice besides the motorcrafts.

that's nice you have 230k miles on yours. Did you had any major engine issues or transmission rebuilt?

well no but I rebuilt my motor and transmission because I love my truck and want it to last and I don't like the new half ton fords so I did it to be preventative and at the time I had two vehicles so it wasn't like my truck couldn't be down for a few weeks

I see. Yeah this is the only vehicle I have for now. I'm aware that the transmission will need to be rebuilt in the future. I'm hoping the engine will last me another 100k. I just drive to work and around close to home. no long trips.
