Hey guys i have a 99 with the 5.4 automatic and i've noticed when the engine is fully warmed up and i go to put it into drive or reverse the rpms drop to 400 then go back up to 600 which is normal idle. I don't know if thats normal but i'm afraid it'll stall. The tranny fluid was changed 20,000 mile ago if that has to do with anything. Any suggestions? Thanks

O alright thanks cuz when i first bought the truck it didn't do that.

 

Depending on how cold it is... mine idles from 600-900. When in gear it will drop until the tq engages or disenages and then resume rpms.

 

O ok thanks for the help. When mines warmed up it stays at 600 year round and one more question on a cold start my dad says it revs to high when i crank it up it hits 2,000 rpm and slowly falls to 900 it that to high?

Mine likes to sit around 900 in park until I put it in gear then it drops to 600

 

My idle in park is 8-900, in drive around 600. General consensus is, you're good.
