New to forum and this gen truck. Couple mod questions?
Hey guys. New to the forum and new to these trucks. Just bought a 02 flareside 4x4. It has a 4.2 (126,000). Was just curious what are some things you guys reccomend replacing or upgrading or check due to the mileage. Also I plan on taking the truck trailing on the weekend. Not a mudder or bogger. Just through some trails ( pine barrens) mostly sand and soft dirt and a mud puddle/ rut here and there. I was curious if a detroit tru trac and front locker as well would be worth it. Also any suspensions upgrades ( shocks, ball joints, anything suspension wise that you guy have found to be beneficial or think is worth it. My plan is to keep the truck stock looking for the most part, but have the mods so it can get out of what I throw at it trail wise. That why I was thinking lockers. Any information or ideas for a daily driver/ trial truck you think a new owner to this gen truck can benefit from would be really appreciated.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Good looking truck. Also you have a flareside. Styleside is a Chevy term just fyi.
I don't think lockers are worth it for what you're doing. Would they help? Yes.... but the cost of lockers vs the amount of times you'd use it... I don't see that being worth it.
Tire size depends, do you want a lift or not?
Best mods are to make it run reliably and stop reliably. Make sure all maintenance is done. Go through your brakes, make sure your lines aren't rotted or rusted. Change oil, change coolant. Check trans fluid. New fuel filter and air filter. Make sure battery is good and no CEL codes.
Then you would probably want to upgrade shocks. Then tires then other mods. But if it isn't reliable to start with, you'll be wasting money.
If you've done all the maintenance then skip to the shocks part of my comment.

I agree, good looking truck. Make sure its reliable, go through standard maintenance, and drive it. If you find that it isn't trail worth enough then bigger tires, shocks, and if you dont have an LSD then get one of those. They came stock with a lot of these trucks.

Welcome to the forum. You can take the information off the door sticker and go into the FAQ's section to decode some information like gear ratio, etc.
You should be able to determine if you have a LSD or not. And learn about the quirks of your year & model of truck.
But reliability is first and foremost. After all it's a 18 YO truck.

If your axle code has a letter in it, such as "H9", then it has Traction-Lok. If it is just numbers, you have an open diff.
