Default need assistance

I have an 02 lariat 4x4 with about 123k on it and I just replaced the heater core about 1500 miles ago...now it seems like the gas mileage has just gone to crap..I bought it from a ford dealership I worked at with 60k on it and we changed the plugs and wires before I drove it off the lot. Any suggestions? I was thinking about throwing in some fuel injector and valve cleaners

I'd say it's time for plugs again and a good PEA injector cleaner along with the fuel filter and MAF cleaning like Punity said. I'll add a throttle body cleaning and front O2 sensors to that list also.

How do you clean your TB. And what's a good fuel injector cleaner. I ha e no way of knowing which are PEA based.

Throttle body cleaning can be found in the link below. Ford says it's coated and never needs cleaned but it's a lie and gets gummy. Good fuel injector cleaners include Techron, Gumout WITH Regane (the other Gumout products don't have PEA), and 3M fuel system cleaner. PEA or Polyether amine (PEA) was patented by Cheveron back in the 70's and has really been one of the few that actually work on dissolving carbon build up. I really didn't learn about it until a few years back and now it's the only thing I use for cleaning fuel systems. You'll find a few posts of mine denouncing naphtha based cleaners for good reason for their lack of effectiveness and chemistry.

Well before the heater core change, and before my last deployment,(left it in the wifes hands) I was averaging around 17 hwy with the gotts mod, flo super 44 true duals, and 2 cats cut off with nitto trail grapplers 285/70/17. Now im around 13-14. Granted I do have to deal with a lot of traffic lights now, I should at least be averaging 15. I did change the fuel filter at 100k but ill for sure try out the other tips. Thanks a lot for the info I appreciate the help
