Default MPG and power mods

Ive got a 2000 5.4 supercab 4x4. 120K. Stock truck except drop-in K&N, and Flowmaster 50 Delta muffler. Gettin 16-19 mpg depending on my mood. What do u think about the gotts mod and air silencer removal to stock air intake with drop in K&N? Im also gonna clean maf and throttle body.

I actually just did both of them tonight. I took it for a little drive afterwards and it did feel more responsive, and like it had an easier time climbing hills.

I haven't driven enough yet to see if I am getting increased mileage, but I bet I will. I only have a Fram air filter as well, I bet with the K&N the difference will be even more noticeable.

Yesterday I did the gotts mod, removed air silencer, cleaned maf, and ran seafoam through vacuum line into throttle body. Havnt driven enough to see a difference in fuel economy, but the engine seems to be a little stronger especially on the top end, which is where i was expecting to see any power increase. Any low end responsiveness i think is just from using the seafoam. You can actually hear the engine breath now. And i was able to remove the air silencer without taking off that accordion looking piece of rubber. Just removed the small sensor thats in rubber, took a dremel tool and cut down the length of the silencer, then was able to pull it out through the rubber. Ill repost my mpg's after i burn this tank.

I have a 2001 7700 4x4 scab 5.4 153k, i was getting 11-12mpg, i cleaned the throttle body, did the gotts mod, dropped in a K&N, cut my muffler out and replaced with straight pipe, i just checked the mileage on the first tank since these mods and it gott 13.0 mpg. So im happy i gained 1 mile per gallon

I have a question about this cutting out the muffler and putting in a straight pipe. Do you leave all 4 cats in and cut the muffler n replace it with a staight pipe and thats it? No codes being thrown? Theres still enough back preasure? Im thinking about doing thisbut don't feel like seeing my check engine light come one after driving it for a while.

Yes, with just straight-piping the muffler you wont have any problems what so ever. You may want to unhook the battery to rest the computer though so it can learn its new operating parameters.
