Post Missing

I just bought a 2002 F150 Supercrew 4X4 5.4L with 93k miles on it. When the engine warms up, it feels like when i push on the gas it misses or like studdards to speed up. Any Ideal of what could cause this problem? Possible plug wires or injectors? Thanks for any suggestions to look at or change. Thanks

You've listed some possibilities - other things that come to mind are plugs, coils, fuel filter, throttle position sensor.

My standard suggestion, in efforts to save time, money, and frustration in the long run, is to see if the computer has any relevant fault codes.

AutoZone reportedly pulls the codes for free.

If you're of the type that likes to do all your maintenance, I recommend checking out buying a code reader for your toolbox. Eliminates a lot of head scratching and subsequent hair loss.

If no codes show up, I would say you have a COP [coil over plug] going bad. The way to find out what cylinder is having the problem will be to have a scan of the PCM done in mode6 under misfires. Bad news is AutoZone code reader will not go into mode6.

Question

So if I went to a place that does Diagnostics testing would they be able to figure it out? I see that Autozone only has a small device that checks only the codes and only trips it when check engine light is on. Am I correct on this? Thanks

Could even just be a plug. My 02 that I had did this as well, only it had the 4.6l. I had no ses light so I went ahead and decided to give the plugs a try first. It was odd to me that it would need them with only having 47K on it though. I found the plug in cylinder #3 was bad. All the others looked fine. Coil could have been weak I dunno. I only replaced the plugs and drove it another 10K when I traded it in, no more trouble out in that time.

Thats what I figured I would do was check the plugs 1st an go ahead and change them out. Then if the problem stays Ill look into changing the coils on it. Im going to have a Diagnostics test ran tomorrow AM and see what they can tell me. Wish me luck and hopefully they find something to help me out. Because this is giving me a headache when it acts up. Thanks

Put your plugs in order as to where they came out. Cardboard works great for this. Just shove them in a hole in order. That way it'll be easier to tell what one your having trouble with. Post us a picture. Diagnostic appt. is that costing you anything? If so, I would try to check the plugs first. It could be that simple and save you the extra cost of the test.

lucky me my dads best friends son owns a shop. So im going to talk to him to see if he could do it for me an give me some info.

If i check the plugs for what exactly would I need to look for being bad? Sorry, it might sound like a stupid question to some but I have no ideal of what to look for. thanks for your info man.
