If it studders really bad.. while driving.. Kinda like a tranny surge.. Then more then likley it is a coil pack.. You can't get a reading for it until the check engine light stays on consistant.. It usually takes a couple days.. Sometimes a week or 2.. In my case it took almost 2 weeks.. I drove my trucki with a missfire until the check engine light came on.. Was the first time I was happy for the Check Engine Light to come on.. LOL.. But yes sounds to mje like a coil pack going out.. Wait until the engine light comes on.. Then run a diagnositc on it.. find out which cylinder it is.. And replace that coil pack.. I never replace them all at once.. Cause it is an electronic part.. And it can fail 1 day after you buy it.. Just replace them as they go out. .. Best and smartest way to do it.. Hope this helps./

ok i got the Diag test done an nothing showed up. He check everything and could not find anything to cause it to do this. I noticed it only does it at 50-55 MPH. It dont do it when Im gradually speeding up, only when im coasting at this speed and try to slowly speed up. It gives like a little pull. Does not slow down or anything, its just really annoying an would like to solve it.

Tomorrow im going back to shop to pull plugs an coils to check them.

ok i changed coils along with plugs. Well i still have the same problem. We ran a diag test on it an nothing is showing up. When i coast at 50mph, is when it only does it. We drove down the street with the machine hooked up, and it still didtn catch it as a miss fire or anything. what other things could possibly be causing this to happen?

the mechanic said they person whom owned the truck before me just changed the plugs out.

i went ahead and changed them from autolites to motorcraft plugs. they seemed to look in real good shape before i changed them. i also changed the coils with motorcrafts as well. when we changed them only 1 had a little crud on it from moisture im guessing.

he aslo said it could be my TCC or TCCS going out or bad. what you think?

Great choice on plugs and coils. The TCC/TCCS is another possibility. Does he know how to work on transmissions? If it's not his specialty you may want to go to a tranny shop and have them take a look and rule it out or not. The ones around me will do a free evaluation and let you know if you have a problem or not.

no he dont work on tranny's. i spoke to another shop and they said it is normal for fords with the 5.4L to do this as its switches on/off regularly when driving at the speed of 45-50 mph. now i dont know how true this is, but it did make sense to me about. he said it really tears the truck tranny up when it does it and to stay out of that speed as much as possible.

is it better to driver on overdrive all the time or with overdrive off? i know when pulling drive in overdrive but when im not pulling anything whats it need to be in?

I have a 5.4 and mine doesn't do it. Do you know the history on the tranny, when was it last serviced? If you don't know I would recommend you service it. But I would still go to a tranny shop and have the evaluation done on it too.
