Default A miss?

So I bought the truck probably 3 weeks or a little over longer ago. 4.6 5 speed 192000 miles sounds like there's a miss or something is just running rough? It has been being driven every other day I don't have my license for another two months looking to have this thing 100 percent when I do get it back. Any thoughts to why it was running this way? It did crank a little slow and like died then all the sudden caught. Just seems like when your drivein it's hesitant when you give it gas. Only thing that's done is the previous owner put what he called a high rise intake on it. Please help me come up with some way to diagnose the problem at home or give me possible problems if you have ha this happen. I am a little short on money right now but need this running good.

What year is the truck? Have you checked the plugs? Any pics of the "high rise intake"?
Is the check engine light on?

If he was working on the intake, check your vacuum hoses. Sounds like a vacuum leak.

That's just the factory intake.

It could be lots of stuff. If it were my truck, I would catch up on the maintenance on the truck and see if that improves things. Sometime a PCV valve will cause you problems as described and these only cost about $3 to fix. Inspect your spark plugs and wires. You can remove the plugs and clean them, better to replace, or just make sure the plug hole is clean and the plugs are tight. add di electric lub to the plug wire ends and put them back. The di electric also is only about $4 and makes sure you have a good electrical connection.

Check for water leaks in the heater hoses. If these are leaking even a little bit, the water gets down in the plug sockets and causes misfires. Heater hoses cost about$25 each and you need two. let me know if you need more details on how to change.

Check out the grounds and connections on your firewall; these should be clean and tight. If not; clean and tight and use that di electric grease.

Make sure you have a clean air filter, put in a new fuel filter, and make sure that air inlet and MAF sensor (to the left of the air filter) is clean.

I sure understand how money can be tight but If you can see you way to come up with $100 you can get a lot of necessary maintenance done and be on your way to having a great running truck.
