Default Massive gap?

So I just picked up this 99 xlt 2wd and there’s like this big *** 2in gap between the grill and the bumper. Is it supposed to like that? Is there something that goes in between the 2?

Wrecked truck? If memory serves correct, a 97-98 grille on top of a 99-later bumper would leave that gap.

The grill on the later trucks has a dip to it while the earlier trucks bottom lip is flat.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. A 99+ grill has a dip in the middle and an associated slot in the bumper. '97-98 are flat.
So a 97-98 grill with a 99+ bumper would look like this:

Actually, there's enough adjustment there to create a gap..like say if the bumper loosened up. Well, for 97/98 anyway...the only gen 10's that had an actual bad azz bumper.

Yeah I think the '97/'98 front bumper was stronger than the '99-'03

Like this? Or is it worse? There's some play but not much.
