my trucks always used the same key for the tailgate, and there is no switch inside.
maybe the lock is seized.

so you might have to take it to a shop or else try removing that panel on the inside of the tailgate if you can get it off with the gate closed.

should be unlocked with the ignition key, just try putting some oil in the lock and try working the key back and forth.

My lock in my tailgate seizes all the time, I try to use it a couple times a week whether I need to or not, just so it doesn't seize. I let it go without use for two months this winter and it seized up, but mine was unlocked so I was able to remove the panel and lube it up like that.

True that! Mine still does it to this day... POS.

Also, I can't remove my tailgate. Opens and closes fine, just won't budge off the posts... POS.

Use a torx bit and remove the access panel on the back. Lube up the mechanism, or if it's locked, unlock it that way.

If the owner had the truck rekeyed, the ignition key may not work. If it hasn't been rekeyed, it may just need to be worked loose again, or pushed in to relieve some tension off the striker locking mechanism.
