Default leveling kit question

i bought my truck about 8 months ago and i was doing some work on it today, i have read some chatter about these leveling kits, so i looked under my truck and noticed that the torsion bar bolts arnt set even, one has about an inch of thread the other has bout 2 inches on it (appx). my quesiton is how can i tell if some put a leveling kit on the truck before i bought it? and how do i tell if the keys are stock or aftermarket?

if the truck is sitting level with that much thread left, than i would say it has a level kit or they put a smaller block in the rear

Unlikely that the torsion keys have just been cranked. We used to just crank them to level out the trucks. We'd upgrade to different keys when the rear was lifted.

Sometimes you can crank the factory keys and get the trucks levelish. Could also be that a torsion bar has lost some twist over time and the keep the truck level, they cranked that side. Could be a bent A-arm, more than likely not. The bar itself may have been removed at one time and the key may have not be installed in the same spot on the bar. I'm betting on either the removed at one time or bad bar. Friend of mine destroyed a bar on his Duramax from jumping it and that's what we did to get it riding level until he could up grade to 1 ton bars.

is there an easy way to tell if the torsion bar is "bad" it rides pretty well, no bad squeeks or noises. i have takin it on to the beach a few times, hit some big mud holes with it but nothing really hard, im not sure about the previous owner.

You could look for cracks in the bars, good sign of hard use and about to break
