Default Question about Painting

Hey Everyone, I just finished a pre-runner style front bumper on my truck and it's black. I want to now paint the chrome part of the rear bumper black as well but was wondering whats the best way to do this?

I was thinking about sanding out the chrome to the metal than using a matte metal paint but should i do it another way?

i tried something like this with a chrome bumper. i sanded it down with my dads sander until the shined finish was worn looking and rustoleum painted it black. the paint holds ok but no perfect. added another coat and it looks fine. post pics of the bumper

its a little tricky to paint chrome but i would suggest sanding it with 80 grit, then sanding with 180, lay down about 2 coats of primer, and then lay the color down. make sure you finish sanding it with 180 sandpaper, if you dont then the 80 grit sanding marks will show through in the paint, especially black

ok, i will give it a try tomorrow after I get some 80 grit sandpaper.. Does anyone know what type of metal the rear bumper is made out of? seems really thin and kind of weak...

its chrome, steel bumper. when you sand it, 80 grit will look like its not coarse enough, but it is. you dont want to go to crazy on it, just need some adhesion for the paint.
