Default Leaky radiator cap?

i am losing coolant and the only place i can tell that it is leaking is my radiator cap. but each time i go to take it off after i have gotten home or to work it has pressure on it. is it possible for the radiator cap to hold pressure but still leak coolant out? the reason i think it is the radiator cap is because the only place i can see any type of leak is on top of my air filter cover and it kinda looks like it "splashes". not a lot of coolant but enough that you can see it only on there. i keep losing coolant somehow. the leak i told about is not leaking enough for me to keep having to put water in the reservoir each day. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. i am lost.

Check to eee if your overflow hose is still attached to reservior. It could be coming out of overflow and spraying on filter housing if no hose. Which would mean your overfilling or overheating.

Test with another cap. If it keeps on happening it could be exhaust gasses escaping out of the cooling system if your head gasket is toast. Does the exhaust smell funny? Oil have coolant in it?

the over flow hose is still attached. the exhaust does not smell any different. i have not checked the oil to see if there is coolant in it or not. it does not do it all the time, just every now and then. like i said, the only spot that i can see it coming from is around the cap. i just replaced the radiator because it had a leak in the top portion of it. took it to have it welded and it only held for 2 days and it leaked again in the same spot. got a radiator from salvage yard that was brand new still in the box for $100. ever since then the leak from the cap has been happening.

Going to get a new cap today on my way home from work. I appreciate the input. If new cap don't fix the problem I will be sure to post back one way or the other.

well as bad as i hate to admit it, i think i am going to have to replace head gasket. i went today and bought a new reservoir cap, and when i got home the engine was hot of course. so, i just began to take the cap off slowly to release the pressure and i could smell what i thought was gas coming out of the reservoir. looks like i know what i will be doing this weekend unless someone can give me a better suggestion, which i hope you can.

I'd get one of the kits from a local parts store that tests for c02 in the cooling system before jumping into a head gasket job

So i am having this same problem except, mine isn't over heating, and we put a pressure tester on it and it remained at 16 psi for 3 hours. i replaced the radiator cap and it still leaks. we also replaced the thermostat and water pump and put all new coolant in it and it still leaks.
