Keyless remotes...
I have tried several times to program a remote to my 1999 F150 XLT. I bought the truck used and only got one "PATS" key with it. So I bought a remote but cannot get it set up. I turn from off to run 8 times and I get nothing. I am doing something wrong or does my truck not have this option?>> Please help..
The procedure for a '97 is this: Make sure the anti-theft system, if so equipped, is turned off. Turn ignition key from OFF to RUN five times within 10 seconds and end in RUN.If the RAP module has successfully entered the program mode, it will lock then unlock the doors.
Press the keys on the remote to test the system.
Turn the ignition key to OFF two to five minutes to exit. The RAP module will lock and unlock the doors one more time to confirm.

Weren't all XLT's equipped with keyless entry?
EDIT- Also, I'm tuned in since I have to do this as well with a key and a remote. I only got one key and a broken remote when I bought mine.

If that didn't work try this
I have a 2001 F50 XLT and had the same frustrations that you are having. Step One might help you. This will work if you have the anti theft option. At least it allowed me to program my new key fobs.
1. Open drivers door (leave open) Cycle the door lock button twice (lock, unlock, lock, unlock)(Use lock button on door)
2. Insert key into ignition switch, switch from off to run, up to eight times within 10 seconds, ending in the off position. When the vehicle has successfully entered programming mode, it will lock and then unlock doors automatically.
3. Within 15 seconds press any button on a keyless entry remote transmitter. The doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each transmitter has been activated. (when the first keyless entry remote transmitter is programmed, all existing keyless entry transmitters are erased.)

Good day,
I had a 2000 4x4 XLT that didn't have the keyless entry pad under the drivers door handle, so I thought it didn't have keyless entry... I was told to look under the dash on the drivers side, to the left of the steering column, above the fuse block... If you have keyless entry, there will be a module that has five fairly large numbers... This is your keyless entry module... And I believe it is 8 times in five seconds ending in run... So, gotta do that fairly quick to get into program mode...
Good luck!!
Cheers!!
