Keyless remotes...
So after buying my truck 2 weeks ago and being told by 2 diff. dealerships that it did not come with keyless entry, I found the way to test it online.(8 key turns in 10 seconds).. and found that it DID come with keyless entry!
I programed it last night, wow was that ever easy, so let the lesson be that the dealership may not have a clue by running a VIN number....

Well I am still unable to program my remote. I do have a RAP module under my dash it is white with a 5 digit code on it and says Ford Electronics. So I have cecked both fuses and think that the RAP is bad. Anyone know if I can just by one from EBay or do I have to go through Ford,....
The procedure for a '97 is this: Make sure the anti-theft system, if so equipped, is turned off. Turn ignition key from OFF to RUN five times within 10 seconds and end in RUN.If the RAP module has successfully entered the program mode, it will lock then unlock the doors.
Press the keys on the remote to test the system.
Turn the ignition key to OFF two to five minutes to exit. The RAP module will lock and unlock the doors one more time to confirm.

Worked exactly as stated for me on my '97, thanks! You have to press the lock button on each remote to be programmed. When you do, the locks will cycle and the remote is now programmed. I only had to turn it to the off position when I was done and the locks immediately cycled again.
On a side note, just make sure you have the right remote for the keyless system!
Yup same exact issue here, i have a 98 5.4 xlt power everything, and i bought it private sale, didnt come with remotes so before buying some i tried to cycle the keys and it never entered programming mode?
so i am assuming i dont have it? i tried numerous times it doesnt cycle the door locks when i turn the key 8 times.

If you have only one key, and want to program a second key, then the dealer has to do it. When I bought my vic, it had only 1 key, so I bought a second with the remote, not from Ford, too expensive (keyless-remotes.com). I had to have the dealer program the key, which cost me $90. damn it.
If you have two or more keys already programmed, then you can do it yourself.
The remotes you should be able to program yourself, no matter the number of remotes you have.
This is from a factory setup.
