Default Keyless remote prolems?

I recently bought my 97 F150 Lariat. It came with a keyless entry remote. I have tried to enter the programming mode (the turning of the key X number of times) I have seen in some posts it is from 6-10 times. For some reason I can not get it to enter into the programming mode. Am I doing something wrong?

I have a 2001 F50 XLT and had the same frustrations that you are having. Step One might help you. This will work if you have the anti theft option. At least it allowed me to program my new key fobs.

1. Open drivers door (leave open) Cycle the door lock button twice (lock, unlock, lock, unlock)(Use lock button on door)
2. Insert key into ignition switch, switch from off to run, up to eight times within 10 seconds, ending in the off position. When the vehicle has successfully entered programming mode, it will lock and then unlock doors automatically.
3. Within 15 seconds press any button on a keyless entry remote transmitter. The doors will lock and then unlock to confirm that each transmitter has been activated. (when the first keyless entry remote transmitter is programmed, all existing keyless entry transmitters are erased.)

Nope, that didn't work either. Thanks for the suggestion. I think I am going to get an aftermarket one (Sams has one for like 35.00) I think there may be something else wrong not letting it get into the program mode. Oh well.

As long as your truck has keyless entry all you should have to do is cycle the ing key 8 times and on the 8th time leave the key in the ON position the door locks should cycle up and down... press the lock or unlock on the remote it should respond if it doesn't two things 1. remote is dead 2. you don't have rke on this truck

And how would I go about finding out if I do in fact have RKE? Is the a module or something that I could look for that would tell me difinitively yes or no. I just know I got a remote from the guy when I bought the truck, so one could only assume it does have RKE. Thanks again!

Check this site out, RemotesAndKeys.com they have a great Customer service hot line. I got my replacement remotes from them, they were a great help to me.
