If there was a custom alarm put on the truck, would that affect PATS and not being able to program the key

No it should not. However to program another PATS key you have to have two previously PATS programmed keys readibly available. If not I think you have to have a dealership unlock them for you and heard it is expensive. I know on another site there wasa post reference the PATS keys and other usefull info . Let me look for it and I'll post i on here.

Are you trying to program a key or a key fob, or both?

So you should be ok with the first post i sent. However when i got my first 2000 F150 i recall the sales guy doing sonething differnt by placing the fob under the steering colum as he went through a sequence with the key and key fob. I will tell you that if you never had the factory alarm/ keyless entry and these processes dont work. Then your truck is not equipped with the keyless entry module. I would then install an aftermarket alarm and or keyless entry. LOL after 9 yearx of owning my truck i just instslled keyless entry, its like a new truck now and dont know how i went that long without it.
