Sorry to raise a dead thread, I'm seriously considering doing the J mod next week. Before I pull the plug, did the mod perform well in the long run?

Not sure on these trucks but on the 90's Thunderbird's it actually extends the transmission life in addition to the performance positives. Don't see any reason why it wouldn't do the same on the 10g F150's. I have plans to do the mod on my 97 4.6L T-Bird in the future and my F150 as well.

Thats what I was thinking too, I’ve read some opinions that for some reason it won’t work on F150’s. I don’t believe that though! Lol

It extends life of the transmission, theoretically, by shortening the shift time... And hence the slippage that takes place.
Not sure I need firmer shifts and with 325k on my transmission... And counting... With no problems.. I think it's life is just fine

Thank you for the info Jbrew! I've looked at the site a few times, some of the articles blow my mind quite a bit!

Yea they are into it over there...as deep you can go. Did about the same thing to mine E4OD/4R100 back in 2006. Drilled the holes too big in the separator plate at first. Trashed that one, made a new plate, new holes, worked out that time. Folks over there helped a lot with it at the time. Had 165,000 miles then, it's at 370,000 now and doing fine. Due to the miles I use rear gear friction modifier (cocktail of sorts) in the mix. That was a retired trans rebuilders idea from that site. I had a a lot of clutch material ground into the accumulator body. The modifier helped with that problem.

They also assisted with the correct way to flush that trans. The truck has been problem free since...no slippage.

I'll definitely spend some more time on their site. I've got a new superior tuff plate on the way that I will drill on, if I screw it up at least I'll have the original separator plate as a backup (as long as it's not messed up). I've got right around 218,000 miles on the transmission now and interested to see what's going on in there, new Sonnax valves and O/D servo will be replaced while I'm in there. 370,000 miles on a transmission with no slippage is incredible! I'll have to look into rear gear friction modifier in the mix as well and the correct way to flush the trans!! Thank you a bunch for the all of the info!
