So I need to unhook the crossmember first, then unbolt the differential from where its attached and then unbolt the oil pan, keeping a jack under the differential to supoort it when it comes down?

Yes. make sure you have the frame supported behind the rear crossmember. Then remove the 3 bolts holding the rear cosmember brace. Then the 3 bolts holding the front diff. Let it drop until the CV axles hit the lower control arms. Remove the pan. Use a long straight punch to to knock the borken dip stick tube from the inside. Also ues some penetrating oil from the top side.

The bolts are so rusted and corroded on there ita a PITA to get em off. Still workin on it..
