Default highway performance loss?

im recently pulling a 5500lb travel trailer, it pulls great until about 60-65 then when im pulling 3500 rpms its just able to keep at that speed. is that normal? would gears help? or do i just need a bigger truck since i have the 4.6.

it has low miles and ive already searched and have seen he tune up advice but just wondering if its that big of peformance increase doing those.

im just realizing i might need a power stroke. but not wanting the fuel expense

thanks guys

the weight isnt to big of a deal should be able to maintian 65 but with it being a travel trailer its like tieing a giant parachut behind your truck. I pulled a 26ft bumper pull travel trailer no idea the wieght but i could maintian 65 with my f150 4x4 4.6 easy enough.

biggest power loss on the 4.6 f150 is when the air filters get dirty maybe time for a general tune up.

whenever you need to speed up, click the overdrive off. thats what i do when i go to pass people to keep the tranny from droppin 2 gears at once.

does the 5.4 ltr with almost a 100ft lbs of torque more make that big of a difference, i might look at a bigger truck or look at the f250's without the v10 or diesel

My 5.4L has no problem pulling a 7x16 enclosed trailer full of tools. Not sure of the weight, but it travels the highway pretty good.

ive never driven a 4.6 that wasnt in a single cab but my 5.4 is great when it comes to pulling and acceleration. i pulled 6000lbs of crushed rock and it handled it fine

its not just over all peak torque/hp numbers that matter, its the power curve and where in the rpm range it makes these peak numbers, the 5.4 makes its peak torque at 2500rpm.. i think the 4.6 makes it around 3500-4000rpm?
5500 lbs is a good amount of weight to pull for a half ton truck, most people never pull this amount of weight. the most i have pulled with my 5.4 is around 6k pounds , and it is definitively working. remember to take it out of overdrive when pulling heavy loads so your tranny isnt constantly hunting for gears, you dont want to be running 1100rpm in overdrive and have to kick down 2 gears every time there is a slight up hill
