Default HID Conversion Kits...

Hey everyone,

So just when I think i understand what I want/need, I read something else and my brain just wants to blow up. Can someone really "dumb-down" conversion kits for me? I just want to get off stock light output so I can see a little more. Do i need a bi-xenon, hi/low? Do i just buy the kit with the bulb/ballast? Do i need 35/55w? I'm looking at 5500-6000k bulbs, wanting to buy a full set. If anyone can help out, or even link me to what they have/recommend I'd appreciate it very much. Thank y'all for your time.

FWIW theres a lighting specific sub forum in the aftermarket sub forum (does that make sense?)

Plug and Play (PnP) HID kits are trash. Poor light output, poor color, no true hi beam and you blind other drivers. You can not safely and legally just put in PnP kits. The halogen reflector housing (what you have) are not designed for HID bulbs. The light from a HID bulb scatters everywhere and the housing can not focus it properly as it can with a halogen bulb. Plus stock headlights (except for a few special trim models) have fluted lenses, which scatter the light even more.

The only proper way to get HID lights in these trucks is to do a HID projector retrofit. Several threads on that here. They do cost more (can be done for ~250 if you do it yourself and source parts/use some b-stock parts), but is well worth it.

For a cheaper option, buy some clear lens Lightning/Harley housings and install some good halogen bulbs (GE Nighthawk, Sylvania Xtravision etc) and you will have some greatly improved lighting compared to stock.

Yep, that's the way I went, new housings and bulbs. Totally transformed the front end look too, very good bang for the buck. Yellow lenses make any auto look old. The conversion kits are a pet peeve too, how smart is it to blind on coming traffic?

I have Harley aftermarket headlights with silver stars. Just like stock in my eyes, anything brighter without having to spend 200+? And I got rid of halo aftermarkets because they blinded everyone in sight because my truck is a little lifted, so I do not want to go that route again

aim the lights. Here's my king ranch lights on low beam( exactly like the Harley lights except without the reflector ) and the other one ( with the service truck ) is low beams and fogs

Get rid of the silver stars and get extra vision or equivalent. Silver star are worthless in rainy weather.
