Default Help identify engine.

Hey guys just purchased a 2003 F150 FX4 for a "No car payment Project" build. The previous owner told me it has a 5.4L in it, but when I ran the vin it showed the smaller 4.6L engine in it. The stickers lead me to believe it was a swap at some point. Curious if someone could help identify the engine for me? I think its self evident but I'd like to make sure.

That tag is for a 5.4, but it just may be the cam cover that was swapped. What does the 8th digit on the VIN say?

W = 4.6L Romeo
6 = 4.6L Windsor
And I believe the 5.4 is an L

Yea my VIN states a 4.6L, but he advertised a 5.4L. Question, are the oil filter sizes different between the two?

8th Digit states the 6, so Windsor.

White89, he is trying to figure out if it was swapped. If it was, the Vin doesn't matter and WHICH 4,6 doesn't matter. He wants to know if it has a 5.4L.

OP - You will have to find the tag on the engine block itself. If you can get to that I might be able to cross it.

Looks like a junkyard swap. The v/c is showing the yellow yard markings and the cover has the 5.4 and emissions tag.

OP crawl under the truck on the right side and look by the starter at the block. There is a casting number on that point. Check the casting number and I'll bet it codes to the L, 5.4 engine. That's where I would start.

It does matter if I am trying to see if the cam cover swap is a possibility. Which it is, being a Windsor.

But with the question being is it a 5.4 or. 4.6, does which 4.6 matter. Probably not.

Do you have a pic of the engine ? They are easy to tell apart.
