Default HELP 4.2 no start

i recently bought a 02 f150 2wd 4.2. it won't start, but it cranks over. i can't hear the fuel pump engage, so i check all my fuses and relays before tearing the tank out. i also do not think i have spark. If i spray starter fluid directly into the carb it still doesn't fire not even for a short second. Also when i hook a code reader to it it can't communicate with the truck. i tried 2 different readers. 1 more thing i had a truck like this before and i had a PATS key for it. and this one i do not.

so no
fuel
spark
obd2

some research pointed to the PCM but everything there looks intact.

any tips or ideas are greatly appreciated. thank you

Have ya checked fuel pressure?
Are you getting any voltage to the ignition coils?
How about any voltage to the injectors?
So your battery and starter work? Alternator too?
Do any lights turn on when you turn the key? Can you turn the radio on?
Does your dash to the self check when you turn the key?

You need a pats compatible key. Without that you are dead in the water.

Missed that...

Yeah, having the right key makes all the difference.

Yeh I had to read through it twice. Without that key the pcm wont turn on the fuel pump or provide spark.

I thought I read somewhere that if you don't have the PATS key it won't even crank over, where mine cranks over. Idk how true that is. But the other problem I have is my code reader connecting to the truck. Which makes me believe there is another problem. Could that be PATS related ? Also do all f150s of that year use PATS.

Thank you guys so much I appreciate any help.

It will still crank over you just wont get any fire. Im betting the pcm lockout via obd is due to pats as well. All trucks 99-03 have it. Just get one from the dealer with your vin and I bet it cranks.
