Default Grille help!

My friend took a chrome lightning grille off his truck. He said I could have it for $20. So I bought it. What do I need to do to get it painted white. Could I do it myself, or do I need to take it to a professional. Its the chrome grille surround that I want to paint. The whole process to do it my self would be great! Pics also!
Thanks,
Robert

The grille surround? Or the Lightning grille?

the grilles are removable, you can just take the grille out of it and put it in yours thats already painted, then stash the chrome grille surround somewhere

You'll be able to do it yourself, clean everything really good, tape off the inner grille, spray the surround with 3 light-medium coats of duplicolor adhesion promotor, then spray 3-4 light coats of your color(duplicolor matches the code), then 2-3 light coats of duplicolor clear. You may want to wet sand it really lightly and buff it out to make it shine.

I just remembered your truck is a 97 or 98 isn't it? If so you can't even use the lightning grille without swapping bumpers because the newer 99-03 trucks have a dip in the center section of the grille.

I have decided not to paint it, because it looks pretty good! Need a new ford emblem, my old one was too small
