Default Got a small vent issue

My heat and everything works, but my switch wont switch my vents to panel, panel floor, defrost etc. the hot and cold still works, and the low to high still works.

whats the first thing i should rip apart?

Edit: went ahead with my trusty "first step" process. which is take it apart, see how it works, put it back together and hope it works. and it works. do the switches behind the ***** go bad? or since i just went wheeling yesterday is it possible i just knocked something loose?

The vent position is controlled by vacuum motors. When you took it apart and reassembled it you may have fixed the vacuum leak. The default, vacuum leak, position is defrost for safety reasons. Keeps windshield clear.

Check your resistor for your blower motor. it should be under your glove box close to the fire wall you should be able to get at it without taking anything apart except for the two 8 mm screws that hold the resistor itself in. just look for the wiring harness that goes to the blower motor and follow it to the resistor. Hope this will help

it wasnt even blowing defrost. it just sounded like it was blowing somewhere in the dash. It didnt come out of any vent at all. I didnt take any vacuum motors apart, just the dash switches.

Like I mentioned the default vent position is defrost. There is a spring that holds the door to defrost and vacuum overcomes the spring to move the door to other positions. Was a heater core ever replaced on this truck? Any other work done on the system?

If i understand you correctly if there was a vacuum leak then the spring would hold the door in the defrost position, for safety. meaning my vents would blow out of the defrost by the windshield. But when whatever this was happened, there was no air coming out of the the defrost vents, or any other vent.

Im not sure if there was anything replaced, i havent had any work done to the system since ive owned it.
