my rear axle is making a weird grinding noise and i think its the gears. So would you guys recommend putting in 3.55 gears or something different

It all depends if it's the problem or not, and whether you're thinking about going with larger sized tires or doing lots of towing.

4.10 and 4.56 is the size I usually see people recommending on here.

Put at least a 3.73 in there if you gotta replace em. Even if you don't tow. IMO a 3.55 or lower in a truck is useless.

4.56 = amazing hole shot and great towing capability

I just want to mention if you have 4x4 whatever you do to the rear you have to do to the front. That's why I'm sticking with 3.55s in mine until I muster up the energy to pull my front rear out. You probably know but no one said it. It'd be a disaster to put 4.10s in the rear and leave 3.55s in the front..

Kinda figured you knew what was up but just in case you know. What you need to think about is how much highway driving you do. The lower gears you get the higher the rpms will be so at highway speeds your engine will be running quite a bit faster and will murder your mpgs and make the engine work more for no real reason. If you do highway driving a lot I'd recommend 3.73s instead of 4.10s.
