The offroad package came out before the Fx4 package. (I believe the off-road package switched to the Fx4 off-road package in 2002). Anyway, if my memory serves me right, both package comes with a limited slip 3.55 or 3.73 rearend, skip plates, upgraded shocks, and 4x4(duh). However, i think everything available with the Fx4 package can be ordered with the other packages(XL, XLT, Lariat). They just don't come standard with them.
There may be interior upgrades but I'm not sure. The offroad/Fx4 packages also likely came with a switch turn on 4x4 instead of a manual transfer case on the floor.

If you have a 4.2 or 4.6 you have the 8.8 rear end, if you have a 5.4 you have a 9.75.

No, it was more than an appearance package. It included skid plates, a limited slip rear end, plus the rancho shocks, decals, tow hooks, and cast wheels. Mine is a Lariat, and I've seen identical color packages as mine, with no charcoal or tan to be seen, only without the FX4 extras.

I own one it, I know. And I forgot the standard tire size was a 265/70/17 from the factory. One member here has one with the 3:55 non-Ls axle code. Also, all 4x4 offroad pkgs had the same skid plates, tow hooks.
And you're saying yours is an fx4 and lariat? If you see what I said, the lariat versions had either tan or body colored trim as an fx4. I do however like the rancho's as a factory upgrade since my factory ones has lasted 150,000 miles now

Example A: The XLT FX4's with charcoal trim on the bumper pads and flares or with the rockers too

Example 2: FX4 plus lariat- trim body colored

Example 3: FX4 and Lariat- tan trim

I have also seen a light charcoal but haven't found another pic of it
