It's got almost everything you guys said the pre FX4 should have minus skid plates.

3.55 LSD
Push button 4x4
265/70-17's
Tow Hooks
Tow package with 4 wheel disc brakes
Trailer braking system
Torsion bars, not sure if this matters, but I've seen other 4x4 F150s without them.
If you saw a 4x4 without t bars there was custom work done

It's my buddies 04 4.6. Definitely coil front end. No work done, it's a base model. 3.73 LSD

Does it have a solid axle? If its a 4x4 without torsion bars it's not a 97-03. Evey single 4x4 made in our gen had torsion bars. But you can do work and remove them

I heard from someone not all 4x4s came with tow hooks. I was under the impression all 4x4's came with the fog light valence. Not that tow hooks and coils are related but I guess it's possible an XL 4x4 work truck would have coils and not t bars. I think it would have to be as base model as you can get though.

It's pretty stripped down, manual windows and locks, the only options seem to be 4x4, A/C, ext cab, and CD.

So, what's better, torsion bar, or coil?

To my knowledge coil.....better articulation and ride quality. Torsion no money required really to level yourself but the more you crank your bars the shorter the life span of your ball joints and such....if i remember correctly.
